Tidal Masters is a collection of tracks that can be streamed in hi-res audio using the MQA codec. How does Tidal Masters work? DANIEL CONSTANTE/Shutterstock That includes 50% discounts for students, military discounts, and first responder discounts.

Tidal also offers a number of discounted plans.

HiFi Plus - $19.99 per month: This adds lossless High Fidelity and Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) support, along with Dolby Atmos and 360 Reality Audio support.įamily HiFi - $16.99 per month: This version allows for up to six different people on the same account but limits audio to standard sound quality.įamily HiFi Plus - $29.99 per month: Here, you get support for six different profiles, plus all the lossless and high-quality format support from the previous plans. HiFi - $10.99 per month: This removes ads while allowing for 1411Kbps sound quality. But if you are interested in upgrading to a subscription, these are the available plans: In 2021, Tidal changed this approach, offering a free version of its music service with occasional ads (currently, Tidal doesn’t have third-party ads, just reminders to sign up for a plan). The only way to access content was to pay for a plan. When Tidal first started, it did not include a free version like Spotify and some others offer. While other services have started to include lossless audio and similar benefits, Tidal still offers the best audio quality for casual listening without paying fees (more on this below) How much does Tidal cost, and what’s included? It also supports Dolby Atmos and Sony’s 360 Reality audio for spatial audio properties. Second, in addition to its free tier for streaming up to 160Kbps, Tidal has more expensive HiFi and HiFi Plus options that bumps up the entire catalog to lossless, CD-quality audio, and a limited catalog of hi-res music, including Hifi and Master, as well as Tidal’s own Master Quality formatting available with the HiFi Plus plan. Tidal is a very artist-friendly platform compared to other options, and for paid subscriptions, a portion of up to 10% of the subscription is specifically directed toward your most-listened artists in addition to their royalties. In 2021, Square purchased Tidal for around $300 million, ending this artist-based ownership, although its influence still remains. Tidal was originally owned by a group of musicians, including Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Jack White, Kanye, Madonna, Rihanna, Daft Punk, Chris Martin of Coldplay, and others. What is Spotify? #TIDAL BRAND GUIDELINES UPGRADE#
Spotify’s hi-fi lossless tier could arrive this year - as a paid upgrade I still have my local music and still use it from time to time on my Hifi system or if I want to listen to that rare recording of a song that Tidal just doesn't have, but Tidal is just so much more convenient that I don't mind paying the extra £ for the convenience of having FLAC quality music at my fingertips without the extra faff involved. What is MQA? The controversial digital audio format fully explained I mean I have considered getting a NAS, throwing my local music on there and using something like Plex to access it remotely, but it's a lot of effort and upfront cost to do that. If I want to listen to playlist whilst I cycle, I just open Tidal, select the playlist and hit go. In the end I turned to Tidal for the convenience of creating specialised playlists that would take far too long to create and manage using a local library - not only that but I am not only limited to playback on one device.

But I got sick and tired trying to update my library to FLAC and not only that, but creating playlists was a pain in the ass too, both for multi device support and for the fact that finding singular songs in FLAC from lesser know artists without downloading the entire album was almost impossible. I used to torrent but then converted to bandcamp to buy FLAC versions and support indie artists or artists of lesser known genre's like synthwave.

I have an offline local collection of 12,000+ songs and half of which are MP3.
